Per-Visit Snow Removal in Winnipeg
Call us after the storms you cannot handle yourself. We clear the driveway and walk, and you pay for that visit only.
Winnipeg Residential Snow Removal offers per-visit service for the homeowner who can handle a dusting but not a foot of snow. You shovel the small ones yourself, and you want someone to call for the others.
It is a common way to handle a Winnipeg winter: do the light ones yourself and get help with the heavy ones.
Who calls us for one storm?
Per-visit service tends to suit a few kinds of homeowner:
- The occasional helper. Capable most days, but not up to a heavy fall.
- The traveller. Away for a week or two and coming home to an unplowed driveway.
- The recovering. Back, shoulder or heart trouble, or a recent surgery.
- The tryer. Wants to see how we work before agreeing to a whole winter.
- The family member. Arranging a visit for a parent or neighbour after a storm.
If you are in the last group and the home belongs to an older relative, our snow removal for seniors page explains how a plan can be set up for them.
What do you get on a visit?
Whatever we agree on when we quote the property. A standard visit covers the driveway and the main walk, and usually the steps. The ridge at the end of the driveway can be added.
That ridge deserves a mention, because it is the part people expect to be gone and find still there. The City of Winnipeg will remove windrows taller than 20 cm after street plowing whenever it can, but ridges across private approaches left by sidewalk plows or back lane plows are the owner’s responsibility. The City’s snow FAQ sets that out. Ask us to include it and we clear it with the rest. See windrow clearing for more.
How do you book a visit?
Call or text when you want us. Tell us the address and what you need cleared, and we will confirm the visit. After the first visit we know the property, so later bookings go faster.
We do not promise a specific hour on a given day, because we cannot see how many properties will need clearing until the snow has fallen. We will tell you honestly when we expect to reach you.
Does per-visit work in every neighbourhood?
It works anywhere we serve. In an older area like North Kildonan, where the Henderson Highway corridor is the oldest settled part, a homeowner who manages the small snowfalls can still call us for the storms that leave a hard ridge at the end of the drive.
If your street sees a lot of plow traffic, the ridge will be heavier. If your garage opens onto a back lane, the lane windrow is yours as well. Our back lane and garage pad clearing page explains that case.
Should I choose per visit or a season?
Pick per visit if you want control and you do not mind making a call. Pick a seasonal plan if you would rather the snow disappeared without you thinking about it. Neither is permanent. You can try one winter per visit and move to a season once you see how often you actually call.
Ask for a quote, and tell us whether you want the driveway only, the walks and steps too or the whole property.

Per-Visit Snow Removal Questions
How does per-visit snow removal work?
You call or text after a snowfall and we come, clear what we agreed to and bill that visit. There is no season to sign up for, so you decide storm by storm.
Who is per-visit snow removal best for?
People who can manage a light fall but not a big one. That includes homeowners with a bad back, a new baby, a bad week at work or a long drive. It also suits anyone who wants to try us before committing to a winter.
At what age should a person stop shovelling snow?
There is no set age, and it depends on health, heart condition and the snow. Heavy, wet snow is hard work for anyone, and many people switch to hiring help after a health scare or a fall. If you have any doubt, ask your doctor and let someone else take the big storms.
Can I switch from per-visit to a seasonal plan?
Yes, at any point in the winter. We would agree the scope and the terms the same way as for any seasonal plan. See [seasonal snow removal contracts](/service/seasonal-snow-removal-contracts/) for how that works.
How much does one visit cost?
It depends on the driveway size, the length of the walks, the depth and weight of the snow, and whether there is a windrow to remove. Our [cost guide](/blog/snow-removal-cost-winnipeg/) explains the factors, and we can quote a visit for your property.
